Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield returns to Earth Following historic five-month mission
May 13, 2013 – Today, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Astronaut Chris Hadfield landed safely on the plains of Kazakhstan aboard a Russian Soyuz Capsule at 10:31 p.m. EDT. During his five-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Hadfield and the Station crew conducted over 130 science experiments, establishing a record for science conducted on the Station. In March, Hadfield achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Canadian to command the Station.

PM announces energy innovation projects across Canada
May 3, 2013 – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced support for 55 innovative new projects aimed at producing and using energy in a cleaner, more efficient way. Support is being provided through the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative, which was introduced in Budget 2011, and is being led by Natural Resources Canada.
Minister Moore Unveils Exhibit for Canada's National Space Icon: the Canadarm
May 2, 2013 – Today, the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, unveiled the permanent Canadarm display at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Astronaut Chris Hadfield assisted in the inauguration of the exhibit from orbit as Commander of the International Space Station--a distinguished role made possible due in part to the contributions of the iconic Canadarm.

Harper Government Announces First Home Built to the New ENERGY STAR® Standard
April 5, 2012 -- Today, Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener–Waterloo, on behalf the Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, celebrated the first ENERGY STAR-qualified home built to the new ENERGY STAR for New Homes standard, which came into effect in December 2012. The announcement was made at a home–opening ceremony to recognize industry leaders who are rising up to the challenge of meeting the increased efficiency requirements of the new standard.
The ENERGY STAR for New Homes Standard was developed by Natural Resources Canada in cooperation with Canada’s home–building professionals and key industry stakeholders to help Canadian easily identify energy-efficient homes. The new standard became effective on December 1, 2012.
Government of Canada Supports Youth in Science; Awards Tomatosphere Project
March 26, 2013 -- A national science project where youth conduct real scientific experiments with tomato seeds previously taken into space was recognized today for its significant contributions to science promotion. The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), attended an award ceremony to celebrate the Tomatosphere Project, which received a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Award for Science Promotion.

March 13, 2013 – Today, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), celebrated a historic milestone in Canadian space exploration as Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield became the first Canadian Commander of the International Space Station (ISS).
February 26, 2013 - Canadian agriculture is faced with great opportunities, but also challenged by water-related risks and uncertainties. An expert panel convened by the Council of Canadian Academies has found that water and land resources in Canada can be more sustainably managed by developing forward-thinking policies and effective land and water management strategies, adopting effective governance mechanisms, and harnessing technological advancements.
The Science and Technology Internship Program provides funding to organizations, businesses and institutions to support recent graduates in natural sciences to gain relevant and meaningful work experience within their field of study. The program funds contributions of up to $13,200 for 52 weeks to hire a new graduate to work on projects in the natural sciences.
The deadline to submit a project proposal for 2013-2014 is March 8, 2013. After this date, proposals are funded on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on funding availability.

Ten International Research Funders Announce Round Three of the Digging into Data Challenge

Today, 10 international research funders are jointly announcing their participation in round three of the Digging into Data Challenge, a grant competition designed to spur computationally intensive research in the humanities and social sciences.
National Science and Technology Week Sets Guinness World Record
OTTAWA, January 28, 2013 - National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) 2012 saw a lot of science being done across Canada. A record amount of science, as it turns out.
Guinness World Records has confirmed that Canada has set the world record for the largest practical science lesson at multiple venues. On October 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. EST, two experiments demonstrating the Bernoulli principle were performed simultaneously at 88 different locations such as classrooms, science centres and museums across Canada. The experiments involved a total of 13,701 participants.
Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield Lifts Off For Expedition 34/35
Longueuil, December 19, 2012 – Today, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Astronaut Chris Hadfield launched on a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 7:12 a.m. EST.
The crew comprised of Hadfield, NASA astronaut Tom Marshburn and Russian cosmonaut Roman Romanenko, will rendezvous with the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday. They will spend 147 days in orbit before their scheduled landing on the 14th of May, 2013.
Stars in Global Health (Phase I and II)
The Stars in Global Health program enables innovators to develop Bold Ideas with Big Impact to improve global health conditions. The program was developed to tap into innovative ideas from leaders in global health and consists of proof-of-concept awards of $100,000 CAD as Phase I grants, and Phase II Transition to Scale funding to successful applicants for up to $1,000,000 CAD.
Minister Ablonczy Highlights Canadian Efforts to Combat Hunger in Guatemala
December 5, 2012 - The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today announced the official launch of a new Canadian project that addresses food insecurity and malnutrition in Guatemala. Minister Ablonczy made the announcement while speaking at a round table on food security in Guatemala City, accompanied by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.
