Youth Science and Canadian Space Agency

Title of Event: Canadian Space Science Challenge to Blast a School's Science Experiment Into Orbit

Description: This new contest by the Canadian Space Agency will see one lucky classroom's experiment performed by Chris Hadfield aboard the International Space Station and streamed live on the Internet to the whole world, during a unique Earth to space connection at the winners' school. Using a list of materials already on board the International Space Station, like socks, dental floss, scissors, bottles of shampoo, water or even mustard, creative Canadians can design an experiment which, although simple to execute on Earth, could have interesting effects in zero-gravity. Description: The Kivalliq Regional Science Educators' Community presents Uuksitaaqtut (Target Practice) the 2012 SET Challenge for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students. These fun, hands-on thematic problems require cooperation, communication and some science, engineering, math, and technology to develop a solution. In 2011 over 1,400 students participated in the SET Challenge, Mannik Madness. This activity is open to schools in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut.
