Examples of Statements for Institutional Eligibility Requests

The following examples of statements may be used by institutions for submission of an eligibility request, as indicated in the Institutional Eligibility Requirements, to the three federal granting agencies – the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

 


Requirement 1.1 - Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that the institution has read and is willing to sign the Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions and comply with the requirements, policies and procedures specified in it and relevant to a particular grant or award.

 


Requirement 3.3Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans

a)    For institutions which conduct research involving humans

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that the institution has a policy that follows the requirements of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). [Name of institution] recognizes that it has sole responsibility for implementing this policy in adherence to the requirements in the TCPS 2. The TCPS 2 will serve as the basis for the ethical review and conduct of all research involving humans conducted under the auspices and within the jurisdiction of the institution.

OR

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that the institution has a formal written agreement with [name of eligible institution] to rely on its policy that follows the requirements of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2).

b)    For institutions which do not conduct research involving humans

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that none of the research currently conducted under the institution’s auspices falls within the purview of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). [Name of institution] understands that it has up to one year from the date of signing the Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions to put in place a policy or a formal written agreement with another eligible institution that adheres to the TCPS 2 and that, until the approved policy or written agreement is in place, the institution agrees that it will not allow the conduct of research involving humans under its auspices and will not submit any applications to the granting agency for research involving humans.

 


Requirement 3.4Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that the institution has a policy that follows the requirements of the Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (the Framework). [Name of the institution] recognizes that it has sole responsibility for implementing this policy in adherence to the requirements in the Framework. The Framework will serve as the basis for the investigation of allegations of breaches of responsible conduct of research.

 


Requirement 3.5 – Research Involving Animals

a)    For institutions which use animals in its research

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that the institution uses animals in the conduct of its research and that it maintains a valid Certificate of Good Animal Practice® from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC). [Name of the institution] recognizes that it has sole responsibility for ensuring that research funded by an agency complies fully with the CCAC standards and for adhering to the requirements of the Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions.

b)    For institutions which do not use animals for research

On behalf of [name of institution], I affirm that animals are not used for any of its research, whether in its own facilities, in other facilities or in the field. Should [name of institution] start using animals in any of its research, it will obtain a Certificate of Good Animal Practice® from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) and comply with the CCAC standards and with the requirements of the Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions.
