Science is vital to Canada’s future: our economy; our health, safety, and security; our country. From protecting our borders and coastlines to securing our food supply and sustainably developing our natural resources, federal scientists are delivering core science and spurring innovation that will benefit Canadians now and for decades to come.
Innovative research requires modern technology. That’s why the Government of Canada, through Laboratories Canada (LabsCanada), has been investing in a national network of future-focused, IT-enabled laboratories. These facilities support the federal science that drives economic growth and enhances health, safety and security, creating a more resilient and brighter future for all Canadians.

Four pillars of Laboratories Canada
Learn about the four pillars that support the long-term strategy.
Learn how the Long Term Vision and Plan is guiding this transformative, long-term strategy.

The Government of Canada, through the Laboratories Canada strategy, produced the Repeatable Laboratory Design Framework (RLDF). By integrating predictable planning with forward-thinking design, the RLDF enables efficiencies and allows each federal laboratory to innovate, through the enhancement of functionality, safety, and sustainability while embracing Laboratories Canada’s core values.
