Mandate
The TGMS External advisory board provides independent advice and, upon request, recommendations, to the TGMS Implementation Steering Committee on specific subject areas. The External advisory board represents the interests of the research community as a whole and provides input to key decision-making and project activities.
Authority
The TGMS External advisory board has been established under the authority of the TGMS Board as a crucial consultative body.
Co-chairs
The TGMS External advisory board will be comprised of two chairs, one from the U15 (representing large institutions) and one from a small-to-medium institution selected amongst the list of accepted nominees.
Roles and responsibilities
The TGMS External advisory board is tasked with the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Developing recommendations on specific subject areas as requested by the TGMS team; and TGMS Implementation steering committee.
- Representing the interests of the research community as a whole and not just their own research field, institution, or perspective.
- Sharing key project updates within their respective networks and research community.
- Providing advice with an external lens.
- Providing input and advice on equity, diversity and inclusion matters pertaining to the TGMS project.
- Facilitating, where possible, engagement between the TGMS Team and the research community during the project implementation phase. (e.g., inform, consult, codesign and empower).
Membership
The External advisory board is comprised of members representing the diversity of the three granting agencies’ (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) research community. The goal is to have representation from different stakeholder segments, including funding opportunity participants, institutions, and research organizations.
The membership may be extended, as required, to address specific representation and project needs, and as directed by the TGMS Implementation steering committee.
Selection process
Members were selected through a nomination process and were appointed to the External advisory board by the TGMS Implementation steering committee. Individuals are appointed to the Board for the duration of the Implementation phase. New or replacement members will be selected through a nomination process.
Meetings
The TGMS External advisory board members meet monthly or as needed by the TGMS project team and the TGMS implementation steering committee, to facilitate decision-making, consultation and information-sharing activities. Meetings will take place through videoconference.
Members of the TGMS External advisory board may attend meetings, as observers, of the External Change Agent Network (ECAN).
Reporting
The co-chairs of the TGMS External advisory board will be invited to provide updates on the Board’s activities and present recommendations and or updates to the TGMS Implementation steering committee.
Evaluation
The terms of reference will be reviewed and revised, as needed. The TGMS Implementation steering committee will review the terms of reference on an annual basis.
